Rod Stewart gets CBE

Rod Stewart has been awarded a CBE in The Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. The 61-year-old singer becomes a Commander Of The British Empire for his 35 years work in the music industry, which includes a hugely successful solo career, along with stints in The Faces, The Jeff Beck Group and Steampacker. Stewart has notched up more than 250 million sales in his time, as well as six UK number ones including Sailing, The First Cut Is The Deepest and Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?

Also honoured this year have been actors Hugh Laurie, who gets an OBE for his success in the US with the TV series House, and veteran Coronation Street star Johnny “Mike Baldwin” Briggs, who receives an MBE. Also honoured is T4 presenter June Sarpong who is the unlikely recipient of an MBE for services to broadcasting and charities such as The Prince’s Trust and Make Poverty History.
