New to Q: Scott Matthews

We first fell in love with Scott Matthews - aka 'the Black Country Jeff Buckley' - in 2006 thanks to his haunting, understated ballad Elusive. If you haven't heard it, check it out on Myspace. The song recently earned Matthews an Ivor Novello award, beating off the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Nerina Pallot in the Best Song Musically And Lyrically category.

Elusive is being reissued on 25 June, backed with alternate versions of tracks from debut album Passing Stranger - plus an excellent cover of The Smiths' classic The Boy With The Thorn In His Side. Stripping away the jangling guitars of the original, Matthews invests the song with the same air of ethereal sadness that made Elusive so moving. Listen here.

Meanwhile, head over to iTunes
where Passing Stranger is onsale for the bargain price of £4.74. Result.

Simply Awesome!!! The Smiths cover is so beautifully crafted by a legend in the making. Morrisey would be proud of this version!
