Among the musical influences listed on Foals’ Myspace are “crisp, fresh, minimal techno” and “clean guitars that sound like transparent sunshine.” That doesn’t tell you a great deal about what the Brighton-based band sound like, but it speaks volumes about the arty, high-minded realm in which they operate.
Five self-confessed “art-school dropouts”, their frantic punk-funk racket suggests a more urgent Bloc Party, with Yannis’ barked vocals conveying an air of anguished, needle-in-the-red menace.
