New to Q: Foals

Among the musical influences listed on Foals’ Myspace are “crisp, fresh, minimal techno” and “clean guitars that sound like transparent sunshine.” That doesn’t tell you a great deal about what the Brighton-based band sound like, but it speaks volumes about the arty, high-minded realm in which they operate.

Five self-confessed “art-school dropouts”, their frantic punk-funk racket suggests a more urgent Bloc Party, with Yannis’ barked vocals conveying an air of anguished, needle-in-the-red menace.

Listen to Mathletics, their finest moment to date and an intriguing primer for their forthcoming debut album, which is being produced by Dave Sitek of David Bowie faves TV On The Radio.

Foals are going to be huge. Hummer is an amazing tune! Saw them at Great Escape and they put on a brilliant show, can't wait for the album!
