At 21, London-based singer-songwriter Nick Harrison already has a lifetime of embarrassing musical projects behind him. His first band went by the excruciating name of Battleska Galactica. Then came “post-hardcore funk” outfit Cream Dream. “We had a trombone player and we played really fast,” he explains.
These days Harrison occupies more modish territory – think Jack Penate’s puppyish troubadour charm meets Alex Turner’s storyteller’s instinct – but you can still detect traces of his happy-skanking past in the reggae-tinged rhythms of tracks such as Something Special, a future single that will also feature on Harrison’s debut album, due for release in April.
Today’s featured track Honey is less ska-influenced, but it’s nonetheless a good example of Harrison’s ear for a sunny, likeable hook. It also showcases a hiccupping vocal style that recalls The Kooks’ Luke Pritchard. You can listen to Honey on [Myspace]

I saw this lad in cream dream in the white lion about 3-4 yers ago and I knew he would be massive then. Stood out like a sore thumb and thats coming from a fellow singer, really talented kid, really hope he makes it, I was wondering where the hell he had got to! Nice one Nick, keep it going mate, only a matter of time.

I took my daughter to see The Automatic at Derby Student Union - her first live gig! Nick was supporting and we both thought he was really good. He has a very distintive style - absolutely loved the 'heavier rock ' parts - look forward to hearing more maybe on Kerrang.
