It's official: Jay-Z will headline Glastonbury

Ever since organiser Michael Eavis let slip that he'd booked "a black artist from New York", it's been the worst-kept secret in music - but now festival officials have confirmed what most people had already guessed: Jay-Z will headline the Pryamid Stage at Glastonbury 2008.

Stressing the need for a "break with tradition", Eavis explained: "[Jay-Z] will appeal to the young people and under-25s for sure, so that's a big pull for them. It's not like the traditional one we do, like Radiohead, Coldplay and Muse and Oasis."

What do you think about Jay-Z headlining Glastonbury? Will he bring a welcome dose of big-pimpin' glamour? Or will the rap superstar's self-aggrandising lyrics detract from the festival's traditional mellow "vibe"?

I don't see the logic. If Michael Eavis wants to attract a young and enthusiastic crowd he should book an emo/punk band - My Chemical Romance/Green Day etc.

Let's be honest, how many Jay-Z fans want to spend a weekend on Worthy Farm?

it doesn't really matter to me. i'm no jay-z fan but i'll still be applying for a tix. never really watch the headliners anyway... i'll be in lost vagueness by that point :-)
