It sounds like an ill-advised Ricky Martin reference, but it was actually inspired by a phrase inscribed on a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Coldplay's fourth album is to be called Viva La Vida - not Prospekt, as was widely reported - and it will be released on 16 June.
Explaining the unusual choice of title, frontman Chris Martin explained: “Everyone thinks it comes from Ricky Martin, which is fine. I've been through this before, naming something or someone and everyone saying, 'That’s a terrible name'. But then saying, 'Well, fuck you, that's what it's called, and I'll be proved to be right eventually'. So when Viva La Vida came along, I was kind of annoyed because I'm going to have to try and convince everybody of this, but it just felt right.”
I actually think this title isn't bad when you put it alongside the other titles:
Parachutes
A Rush Of Blood To The Head
X&Y
Viva La Vida
I quite like it, it seems to fit, and by the looks of things it will be a change in direction from the tiresome X&Y so that is a plus any day!

They are freaking Coldplay! They can name their album whatever they want! would you ask Frank Sinatra about his choice of album names? didnt think so either! show some respect people! i for one couldnt care for less the title of the album as long as there is an album! Coldplay, rock on! and for your next title, emmm how about Vivian?!

I suppose, Vivian, you are right. They are "freaking" Coldplay. Therefore, they can come out with such shit titles as "Sinatra's Sinatra" or "Frankly Sentimental". The difference is Mr Sinatra can be forgiven the poor title choice due to massive talent or...and this is a long shot...the fact that he named those albums two, possibly three generations ago. Coldplay, my dear Vivien, should have their eyelids nailed to four donkeys (one each). If I'm honest, I'm also insulted by the Ricky Martin comparisons. Livin' La Vida Loca was a great song. Coldplay will get skelps from scraping the barrel. I hope this clears everything up.

Well it's even "better" now - 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' is the full title.
