Top 5: James Bond Songs

With all the will she/won't she speculation about Amy Winehouse recording the theme tune to the next James Bond film, Q are here to remind you of previous 007 glories.

Paul McCartney & Wings – Live And Let Die (Live And Let Die, 1973)
Just a few years on from the dissolution of The Beatles, Paul McCartney's Wings would record the theme tune for Roger Moore's first appearance as 007. Co-written by McCartney and his then-wife Linda, Live And Let Die has all the orchestral elegance of a typical Bond theme, but with added Fab Four influences.

Louis Armstrong – We Have All The Time In The World (On Her Majesty's Secret Service, 1969)
Given that Geroge Lazenby's rather wooden performance was his one and only time playing Bond, it's perhaps only fair to say that the real star of the film was the inimitable Louis Armstrong, whose wonderful version of We Have All The Time In The World probably had a better chance of Oscar success than 007 himself.

Dusty Springfield – The Look Of Love (Casino Royale, 1967 version)
This sultry song soundtracks a quite surreal seduction scene in this late Sixties spoof of the 007 franchise, which was based (loosely) on and named after Ian Fleming's first Bond novel. This is, perhaps, the best Bond song that wasn't actually in a proper Bond film - it's a shame they didn't use it in the recent remake.

Shirley Bassey – Goldfinger (Goldfinger)
Sung by the inimitable Shirley Bassey, Goldfinger is one of the most memorable and well-loved Bond theme songs. Produced by George Martin, who was busy working with The Beatles, the song played over the beginning and end credits of the 1964 film and has since become one of Shirley Bassey's most well-known perfomances.

Carly Simon – Nobody Does It Better (The Spy Who Loved Me)
Following the full-throttle ski chase that opens this 1977 Bond flick, the music and picture neatly segue into a large pair of silhouetted hands guiding Roger Moor and his parachute to safety. In the back, Carly Simon gently sings this sombre Marvin Hamlisch tune as a number of girls dance acrobatically around some giant guns. Not suggestive in the slightest, then...

I wouldn't put it in a top 5, but Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" for Casino Royale was well done too.
