I Was A Cub Scout are two young men from small villages near Nottingham. Todd Marriott sings and plays guitar and synths, while William Bowerman drums at speeds and rhythms that seem almost inhuman. Together, they’ve created a sound that is epic and way beyond their years (Marriot is still 19, Bowerman two years his senior). A surging, searching song, The Hunter’s Daughter is typical of the catchy, emotionally-charged tunes of their debut album, I Want You To Know That There Is Always Hope. Recorded with producer Hugh Padgham (The Police, XTC, Kate Bush), the album was released back in February and suggested the duo were worth keeping an eye on.
Since the beginning, the band have toured constantly, knocking up some 250 shows in their first year and a half of existence. They’re currently on the road supporting The Wombats, and will then continue on a headline tour for most of June. The Hunter’s Daughter will be released in June and will have a cover of The Cure’s Close To Me as a b-side.
