Noah And The Whale - 5 Years Time
Sometimes you hear a track that is so simple, so naïve, so otherworldly yet so obvious, that you can’t believe it hasn’t been with you for an entire lifetime. From the first strummed moments of Noah And The Whale’s 5 Years Time, you can’t help but try to place where you have heard it before. A mobile phone ad? Some rediscovered 60s folk compilation?
Part of the same acoustic folky scene as Laura Marling (she features on vocals on this track) and Mumford & Sons, Noah And The Whale are led by songwriter Charlie Fink, who has here created the ultimate track for lazing about in unspoilt ovegrown wild flower meadows, bathed in golden sunlight. With ukuleles, violins and hefty blast of whistling, it is not the most obvious chart-friendly arrangement but sounds utterly enchanting.
The band have already made audiences sit up and notice with support slots for Feist and Broken Social Scene with what they call their “post-grunge folk”. 5 Years Time is out on August 4, has a charmingly silly video and precedes the album Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down.
