The Verve: Mover
As the lights glared out from the Pyramid Stage, Richard Ashcroft swaggered to the microphone and the excoriating guitar riff from This Is Music pounded across Glastonbury, it was like The Verve had never been away.
As the band gear up for their first new single release for more than a decade with Love Is Noise, we can be assured of a Verve-flavoured soundtrack to the summer in the same way that 1997 would have been unthinkable without a backdrop of Urban Hymns.
This week the band continue the process of priming us for their return by giving away a newly available track Mover which will not be included on new fourth album Forth (ahem, geddit?).
Unlike Love Is Noise, which sounds far more akin to the softer solo material which Ashcroft has pursued in the years apart from his bandmates, Mover sees the band back into ther trippy, noodling groove – Nick McCabe’s sheet metal guitar, topped with backwards overdubs – and all in under four minutes.
To get the download of Mover free click here but you only have until Sunday.
You can catch the Love Is Noise on Q Radio which is featuring the track on its playlist. |
