Johnny Marr is teaming up with Radiohead stars and Crowded House frontman Neil Finn for a charity supergroup.
The Seven Worlds Collide project revives a collaboration between the music stars, which last saw them play together in 2001. The reformed group will record an album of new material to raise money for Oxfam, as well as playing gigs next year.
Seven Worlds Collide’s line-up will feature Finn and Marr alongside Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway, violinist Lisa Germano, and Finn’s son Liam. Also pitching in will be KT Tunstall, Jeff Tweedy and other Wilco members, as well as Bic Runga, with further names to be added.
Finn said: “Seven years ago I invited a few friends and fellow musicians to do a special series of concerts in New Zealand under the banner Seven Worlds Collide. The concerts were an amazing experience for all of us and we are delighted to have found an opportunity to gather again, this time to expand the concept and the line-up too.”
Recording will take in Auckland, New Zealand with the album due for release next year. The live album by the previous incarnation of Seven Worlds Collide – named after a line in the Crowded House track Distant Sun – also featured Eddie Vedder.
